TD Bank Financial Group Initiatives

The TD Bank Financial Group has been instrumental in developing new opportunities that assist people with disabilities in pursuing their career goals. Some of their initiatives include:

Partnerships  with disability related organizations
Ability First Conference  – An annual conference that considers disability awareness and accommodation in the workplace
Scholarships and Bursaries
Accessible Services  for customers and employees

Several of TD Bank Financial initiatives align with IL philosophy and we are grateful for their continued support and dedication to the disability community.

Partnerships

The TD Bank Financial group is actively engaged with many organizations related to people with disabilities including:
Ability Edge – In 1999, The Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) along with five of its member banks, including the TD Bank Financial Group, launched this major initiative to increase the employment of people with disabilities. This initiative focuses on helping university, college and high school graduates with disabilities gain career-building experience through paid internships. In addition to being a founding member, the TD Bank Financial Group offers internships through Ability Edge and has hired several employees through the program. (English only link).
Canadian Paraplegic Association – Assist persons with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities to achieve independence, self reliance and full community participation.
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) – Aims to enhance independence for people with vision loss and to be the leader in promoting vision health. Additionally the CNIB is the primary source of support, information and most importantly, hope, for all Canadians affected by vision loss.
Canadian Hearing Society – A provider of services, products and information that remove barriers to communication, advance hearing health, and promotes equity for people who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. Their vision is a society where people are respected; have full access to communication; and are able to participate without social, economic or emotional barriers.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Due to the high costs of higher learning, many young people need financial aid to continue their studies. To help them reach their full potential, TD Bank Financial Group donates significant funds for student scholarships and bursaries including:
TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership – TD Bank Financial Group offers twenty annual scholarships to young people who are passionate about making a difference in the world around them - excelling in school while devoting their extra time to fighting child poverty, launching tutoring programs and protecting the environment, among other things. These scholarships, valued at up to $60,000 each, celebrate community leadership and academic excellence and are considered one of the most prestigious scholarships in the country.
TD Bank Financial Group Bursaries: Annually, over 500 aspiring students studying in various disciplines receive scholarship funds through this program.
TD 4-H Agricultural Scholarships: These scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, help make it possible for 10 high-achieving Canadian students to study in the agriculture and agri-business fields.
Harry Jerome Scholarship Fund: Two scholarships a year, valued at $7,000 each, along with summer employment at TD to African-Canadian students who demonstrate academic excellence, community leadership and financial need.
Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth (FAAY) scholarships: Through the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, TD funds six scholarships of $2,000 each to help develop the next generation of Aboriginal leaders.

Each year they continue to provide increased accessibility to TD products, services and facilities for persons with disabilities.
TD Bank Employees
Career diversity:
TD Bank Financial Group believes that diversity is key to their success in the competitive global marketplace. “By embracing people with a wide range of unique experiences and abilities, we embrace the world. We open the door to innovation and cultivate positive change. We make our business stronger.”
Careers for Persons with Disabilities:
TD Bank Financial Group works hard to create an environment of support for persons with disabilities. They offer a comprehensive workplace accommodation program that works to remove barriers and provides employees and managers with a means to ask for assistance with accommodations such as workstation modifications or restructuring accountabilities.
